Welcome to the web portal of the Ethics Committee at the University of Nova Gorica

The Ethics Committee of the University of Nova Gorica is a permanent expert committee of the Senate of the University of Nova Gorica whose task is to assist in ethical assessment of research and projects in the areas of biomedical, biotechnological, environmental and behavioral sciences as well as other types of research conducted at the University of Nova Gorica that involves humans, animals and human or animal samples, in a form and manner that requires ethical evaluation. Committee operates in accordance with the Rules of Composition, Tasks and Operation of the Ethics Committee of the University of Nova Gorica (No. 87-1/2015).

Employees of the University who carry out research that involves work with humans, animals or human or animal samples must submit an application to the committee for an ethical assessment of the research (hereinafter: »application«). If the research task is conducted by a student, the application must be submitted by the student’s mentor or the head of the research project within the framework of which the research is carried out.

The application consists of two documents, namely:
  • Application for ethical review of research and
  • Application Form A - application for ethical review of research involving humans or human samples or
  • Application Form B - application for ethical review of research involving animals.

An application for ethical review of research involving people must also include the form titled »Consent to participate in research«. If necessary, the application may also include other documents that are necessary for a comprehensive ethical assessment of the research. The application can be submitted in Slovenian or in English.

It is recommended that the application be submitted at least three months before the start of the research.

The Commission only considers complete applications. If the application does not meet the criteria for the proposed assessment or if the application is not complete, the chairman of the committee sends a request to the applicant to complete the application within 5 days upon receipt of the application and sets a deadline for the applicant to complete the application. If the applicant does not complete the application within the set period of time, the chairman of the commission issues a decision on the inadequacy of the application.

The decision regarding ethical assessment of the proposed research is issued by the chairman of the commission, no later than two months after the submission of the application.
